Welcome to Dr. Little’s Flute Studio!

I am a student centered teacher, which means that my main focus is my students!

I want each individual student to get exactly what they NEED from private flute lessons. Since each student has different learning styles and their own unique personality, I tailor their lessons to be something that works perfectly just for them.

Regardless of the difference in each individual lesson, each student can expect to be treated with kindness, compassion, and understanding. I believe that we can hold high standards of playing and still treat ourselves and everyone around us with kindness. A high standard of playing does not have to come with negative self-talk either. We can extend that kindness and compassion to ourselves.

I believe in teaching students HOW to practice and explain WHY we practice.

I believe in consistent practice NOT constant practice.

I believe that we can be gorgeously musical and emotive AND be clean and efficient technicians on the instrument.

I believe in practicing as efficiently as possible so that we can get the most done in the shortest amount of time.

I believe in making time to just play the flute because its fun!

I believe that learning and instrument can be silly, fun, and beautiful even when it is challenging.

I believe in celebrating the small daily wins just as much as the big public ones!

If you think you would like to study flute in an environment like what I’ve just described, please do not hesitate to contact me! I’d love to tell you why this studio would be a fantastic place for you to study the flute!

Lessons with Dr. Little  are for anyone interested in improving their abilities on the flute. The studio has included students from age 6-65. Instruction includes supplemental activities designed to enrich each student in their musical journey and guidance on any flute-related topic you can think of! From buying a new flute, to choosing repertoire, to deciding on etudes for the semester.

Students can expect to learn how to value their progress and hard work over achieving perfection (which doesn’t exist!). Every student in my studio will be expected to work hard but will find that the hard work results in more fun! Student will learn how to ask questions and seek answers in a way that is empathetic, curious, supportive, and self-compassionate.

Supplemental activities can include Arkansas Symphony performances, customized practice plans and exercises, customized repertoire based on your favorite songs, fun learning games, guest artist classes, and opportunities for performances at studio recitals. In Spring 2024, we will be attending the Arkansas Symphony together to hear Carolyn Brown perform the CPE Bach Flute Concerto in D minor, we’ll have a monthly studio class, and we’ll be performing with the Arkansas Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble at the Clinton Presidential Library! We will also have our Spring Recital, The Flute Eras Tour, on April 27th at the Steinway Gallery in Mayflower!
